Your privacy is important to us. It is Write Upon Demand’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect from you across our website, www.writeupondemand.com, and other sites we own and operate.
2. Collecting information
2.1 Collecting data
We only ask for personal information when we truly need it to provide a service to you. We collect it by fair and lawful means, with your knowledge and consent. We also let you know why we’re collecting it and how it will be used.
You are free to refuse our request for your personal information, with the understanding that we may be unable to provide you with some of your desired services.
2.1.1 Cookies and how we use them
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small file placed on your computer’s hard drive. It enables our website to identify your computer as you view different pages on our website.
Cookies allow websites and applications to store your preferences in order to present content, options or functions that are specific to you. They also enable us to see information about how many people use the website and what pages they tend to visit.
- Analyse our web traffic using an analytics package. Aggregated usage data helps us improve the website structure, design, content and functions.
- Identify whether you are signed in to our website. A cookie allows us to check whether you are signed in to the site.
- Test content on our website. For example, 50% of our users might see one piece of content, the other 50% a different piece of content.
- Store information about your preferences. The website can then present you with the information you will find more relevant and interesting.
- To recognise when you return to our website. We may show your relevant content, or provide the functionality you used previously.
Cookies do not provide us with access to your computer or any information about you, other than that which you choose to share with us.
2.1.2 Collecting author data
When we publish a guest’s post on our blog, we ask our guest to supply us with their full name, website, email, article title and a short description. We then follow up each submission with an email to ask for the full article to publish on to our website and a little information about the author.
All of the author’s submitted details, including any details mentioned inside email correspondents, are then made public and viewable on the Write Upon Demand website. These details may be viewable online as an author card and author page on the Write Upon Demand website.
As a user of our guest posting service, the user agrees and allows us to post their article freely on our website, transferring all ownership of their article as per our terms of service.
If a user wishes to anonymise their submission before or after the date of submission, we can help to provide the necessary changes for the author.
2.1.3 Collecting subscriber data
We ask all visitors who visit our website if they would like to subscribe to our newsletter.
Submissions are first sent to our internal on-server email addresses and then manually added to our Mailchimp account’s list. Once they have been added to the list, they are deleted from our servers.
Once a user receives their first email from our Mailchimp newsletter, the user has the option to unsubscribe.
If for any reason, a user would wish to remove their emails from our list before it is added to Mailchimp, they can contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by writing to us at Studio C, Fisher Street Studios, 15 Fisher Street, NE6 4LT, United Kingdom.
2.2 Retaining data
We only retain collected information for as long as necessary to provide you with your requested service. What data we store, we’ll protect within commercially acceptable means to prevent loss and theft, as well as unauthorised access, disclosure, copying, use or modification.
2.3 Sharing data
We don’t share any personally identifying information publicly or with third-parties, except when required to by law.
We do share information publically on our website about our guest authors when they write for Write Upon Demand, as mentioned above (please, see point 2.1.2).
2.4. Removing data
To request a removal of your data, contact us by email at email@example.com or by writing to us at Studio C, Fisher Street Studios, 15 Fisher Street, NE6 4LT, United Kingdom.
To maintain the structure of the website, we may not completely remove any user submitted data, however, we would look to anonymise it for you.
3. External links
Our website may link to external sites that are not operated by us. Please be aware that we have no control over the content and practices of these sites, and cannot accept responsibility or liability for their respective privacy policies.
Your continued use of our website will be regarded as acceptance of our practices around privacy and personal information.
